The gift
A day learning what their 4×4 can really do
Plenty of people own a properly capable 4×4 and never get the chance to use it. This gift fixes that: a private day in your own vehicle on Dartmoor’s green lanes with me, Dan, a LANTRA certified 4×4 driver and Green Lane Association Affiliated Tour Guide.
We cover the things that actually matter, like low range, diff locks, hill descent, recovery points and reading the ground in front of you, at their pace and with no group to keep up with.
£495 for them and their vehicle. A passenger is welcome to come along too.

How the gift works
- Buy the experience online and tick “This is a gift” at checkout.
- I’ll email you a gift voucher to print or forward, so there’s no postage to wait for.
- They have 12 months to get in touch and choose a date that suits them.
- We talk through what they’d like from the day, and I plan the route around it.
Days usually run from around 10am to 2pm, starting near Haytor on Dartmoor.
Check their 4×4 is suitable
The day is in the recipient’s own vehicle, so it needs:
- Full-time four-wheel drive
- Low range gearing
- All-terrain tyres
- A valid MOT, road tax and insurance
That covers most Land Rovers, from classic Defenders to Discoveries, along with most pickups and serious off-roaders. “Soft-roaders” without low range aren’t suitable. Not sure? Send me the make and model and I’ll let you know before you buy.

Questions about gifting
How long is the gift voucher valid?
12 months from the date you buy it. That gives them a full season to pick a date that suits.
What does the recipient need to bring?
A suitable 4×4 (full-time four-wheel drive featuring low range and all-terrain tyres) with a valid MOT, tax and insurance. Food, drink and clothes for the weather are a good idea too.
Can someone come along with them?
Yes. Every experience assumes two people per vehicle, and more passengers are welcome as long as there’s space for me for some of the day.
Where does the day start?
Usually near Haytor on Dartmoor, running from around 10am to 2pm. Exact times can be arranged.
Can the date be changed once it's booked?
Yes, with more than two weeks’ notice we can move it to another date or give a full refund. With less than two weeks to go, refunds aren’t available.
