Hi, I’m Dan

Most people who come out with me own a properly capable 4×4 and have never really used it. It’s done the school run, the tip and the odd muddy car park, and somewhere on the dashboard there are buttons and levers that have never been used.

I started Torr Overland in January 2025 to change that. I’m LANTRA certified in 4×4 driving and a Green Lane Association affiliated tour guide, based in Dartmouth, and I drive Dartmoor’s lanes in my own 2010 Discovery 4.

The aim is simple. By the end of the day you’ll know what your vehicle can do, what it can’t, and where you’re legally allowed to take it.

How a day works

It’s private. Just you, your vehicle and me. No convoy, no being left at the back.
You drive your own 4×4, so everything you learn works on the vehicle sitting on your drive.
We start with the controls: low range, diff locks, hill descent, recovery points, and what each one is actually for.
Then out onto South East Dartmoor’s legal lanes, at your pace, reading the ground in front of you as we go.
You head home knowing how to plan your own routes and stay on the right side of the law.

Credentials you can check

LANTRA certified in 4×4 driving. LANTRA is the UK’s awarding body for land-based training, and its 4×4 qualifications are the recognised standard for off-road instruction in the UK.

Green Lane Association affiliated tour guide. GLASS works to keep vehicular green lanes open by using them legally and responsibly. Every route we drive is one you’re allowed to be on.

Leave it as we found it

Green lanes only stay open if the people using them look after them. We stick to legal routes, drive at a pace that doesn’t chew up the surface, and I’ll show you how to do the same when you’re out on your own.

Torr is also an Ecologi member, offsetting the carbon from my vehicle and yours on every day out. More on how we keep a light footprint.

See it before you book

I film a lot of what I do: Land Rover ownership, green laning, kit I actually use, and the odd myth that needs busting. It’s a good way to get a feel for a day out before you book one.

Kit &

equipment

Kit is an integral part of your 4×4 and overlanding setup. Buy cheap, buy twice is seen no clearer than in the overlanding products on the market. You quickly find out what you can trust and what leaves you in a sticky situation!

I only endorse products I genuinely use and can personally recommend. Quality doesn’t always come cheap but it’s worth the investment into high quality items that won’t let you down.
